Patience, O Bride

We're supposed to plead for the Kingdom to come--sure. Remember, though, that in praying for Jesus' return we are also (whether consciously or not) asking for the damnation of unbelievers--many of whom have yet to hear a gospel proclamation.

We're quick to pray for Kingdom peace,
For Christ's return, the Marriage Feast,
For God to rule in pow'r and might,
When all rebel'ion 's put to flight;
For wine to flow and songs to sing
In endless praise before the King.

But what, if now, his reign should come?
If earth should cease, it's course full run?
What would the lot of sinners be
Who haven't yet embraced Mercy?
Nothing but pain--the second death;
No joy or peace--tort'rous unrest.

So when we pray, O Church, let's be
More patient to embrace Glory,
And suffer long that sinners may
Rejoice with us on that Last Day.
Then we in One, with one accord,
Will congregate to praise the Lord.

O Father, grant us one more day
To wrest from Satan's grasp the clay
Which you have made and Christ redeemed.
Please stay thy hand--if good it seems.
